Handwoven then hand-embroidered Turkish flat-weave Kilim Tapestry/rug.
Traditionally hand-dyed with natural vegetable dyes
This incredible tapestry uses soft pastel colors to depict a gentle and harmonious narrative.
This story implements so many motifs of Anatolian rug weaving.
A central female motif is embroidered within the traditional symbol of a 'Dragon'- which is believed to be a guardian of treasures and sacred things. The female figure is then surrounded by other female forms and their animals. These characters are then bordered with the traditional motif of a 'cross' which is believed to reduce the power of the evil eye by dividing it into four pieces. To complete this protective narrative, the 'Star of Solomon' imagery is used to surround the scene to bring about happiness and prosperity.
This strong prayer of guardianship and harmony within a community is such beautiful imagery to hang in a wall of a home , above a bed of a daughter or in a room where a family communes.
Each rug in our collection is hand picked for rarity, unusual markings and design. They all come with a certificate of origin from the antique rug gallery in Izmir, Turkey from which they were sourced.
