Traditionally hand-dyed with plant based natural dyes.
This stunningly bold Kilim tells of a desire for a woman to wed, create a family and devote herself to a noble position of woman of a home. Due to the size and extravagant color palette, this rug was most likely woven as a wedding gift for a well-to-do family or from a wealthy family member.
The symbolism of the 'Earrings' and 'Comb' motif is used widely as a way to communicate a desire to wed and to protect birth and marriage against the evil eye, while the 'Fetter' design is used to show the continuity of the family union, the devotion of the lovers and the hope that they should always stay together. The central 'burdock plant' imagery is a prayer for abundance and happiness. A true blessing for a new union and an heirloom to be treasured forever.
Each rug in our collection is hand picked for rarity, unusual markings and design. They all come with a certificate of origin from the antique rug gallery in Izmir, Turkey from which they were sourced.
