We are so honored to partner with the Women's Co-operative Of Nevruz Village, established with the incredible objective to not only provide income for women in the rural village who are unable to work outside of the home, but also to encourage socialization and connection through community!

When we ventured off to re-imagine the traditional Turkish 'Patik' like the ones our Anneanne and Teyze (grandma and auntie) used to knit for us, we knew there couldn't be a better place to re-create these nostalgic pieces, than in the homes of other Anneannes and Teyzes ♥️

Introducing the Oddbird 'Patik' collection, hand-knitted winter booties, constructed from locally sourced Turkish wool and recycled acrylic, available in 3 gorgeous colors, 3 sizes, and designed to be slipped on after a long day, warming you up from your toes all the way to your heart.

A FUN TIDBIT FOR YOU:

In the Turkish culture, when coming home after a long day it's customary to remove your shoes at the door. Tracking in the mess of the outside into your mama's clean home immediately constitutes an effective sandal throwing 😆 On entry your mama will offer you rubber house slides during the warmer months and knitted 'Patiks' during the colder months. These will likely not leave your feet until you are ready to venture out again. Almost always knitted by a relative, Turkish Patiks are full of the intention of the maker to provide comfort for someone they love, something we kept close to our hearts when collaborating with the women of Nevrus Village ✨ 

Please note: your Patiks may initially feel snug but will form and stretch with wear.

My happy feet

I love the pair of cotton patik my daughter-in-law gave me for Mother's Day. They are just warm enough to walk around the house in, and they keep my feet comfortable when I want to pull them up onto the sofa. If it's slightly chilly I add a pair of hand-knit socks. I have now bought a wool pair for winter, and will gift additional pairs. I find they run relatively small, though because I am a perfect US size 6 mine fit me quite well. You are told not to wash them but I have machine washed mine i a delicates bag in cold water and line dried them with no ill effect. You are, after all, cleaning the floor as you walk so the soles will get grimy. Thank you.

Like a warm hug

I love these booties!!! They are so easy to slip on. Comfortable and warm! I love how the material feels on my feet. They aren’t slippery on our slick floors, either. They are snug but not at all uncomfortable. I wear a 7 1/2 and was advised to purchase a size small. Since they are a woven/knit product there is give to conform to your true foot size. You would not want to order these too large; they are meant to fit like a warm hug! I laundered them in the same manner as the towels and dried on shoe tree. They look and feel good as new.
