The answer for Midwest summers

So thrilled these shorts were finally released as separates. I chose canyon rose in medium. This was the only color I didn't have in bottoms, although the rest are pants. In the humidity and heat, even the breezy pants can feel like a bit too close. These have a barely there feeling while still definitely being there. The elastic is sturdy enough that I can tuck something heavier in my pocket and it doesn't feel like they're going to slide off with the weight. So comfortable overnight and lounging around the house; I'd definitely wear them out, as well. I'm 5'7". They fall about mid thigh while standing. They are very comfortable while sitting, too, with the bottom hem still reaching far enough to not worry about fidgeting with it for bum coverage. I'd say it's over the top 1/3 to 1/4 of my thigh, depending on the mobility demands of kid related activities.
